5 Tips to Survive Long Haul Flights Alone

During my study years, I often have to travel long journeys by myself. Some of the travel journeys required more than 10 hours flight and involved transit. While some flights are advance enough to provide you a lot of entertainment on board the plane, some flights simply have zero entertainment (unless you count looking at people passing by on their way to the toilet as an in-flight people watching).

So, what are some things that you can do to survive this long-haul flight alone?

1. Watch all the in-flight entertainment

If you are taking a nice flight (e.g. Singapore Airlines or Emirates kind-of-flight), good for you, there will be a lot of movies that you can watch or music that you can listen to.

2. Enjoy the meal on board

I don't know about you but I really like it when the steward/stewardess start distributing meal on board. Taste-wise can be a hit and miss but eating a meal makes time goes by quicker. Long-haul flights usually have 2 serving of main meals and probably as-and-when serving of drinks and snacks (when you are still awake). Another good thing about enjoying meal-on-board is that you don't really need to interact with anybody (except for the steward/stewardess of course) to enjoy the meal.

3. Read books/ magazine

If your flight does not include the in-flight entertainment, books/ magazines will be your best friends (assuming you enjoy reading, of course).

4. Play with your tablet/ mobile devices

Remember to set all electronic devices under the flight mode before you play your games/ watch movies/ listen

5. Doze it off

If all else fails, you can always try to take medicines to help you doze in the plane. Do take a precaution of your medical conditions before you take the sleeping pills. I personally don't like taking sleeping pills on flight because it will make me feel groggy when I wake up. And I will miss all the meal-on-board. #gluttononboard
